Jett video test.

I'm working on uploading my own videos to the Durkinworks blog. This is a test movie of Jett from when he was 5 weeks old (note how active and expressive the boy is). Please comment and let me know if you are able or unable to view it.

More scraps for you. I'd love to do more of the Star Wars cast in the style like Han Solo.

A couple of AK animals.

While drawing caricatures at Disney's Animal Kingdom, occasionally I am asked by guests to draw them AS animals. Yesterday I had a few.

LOST: The End

LOST is over. The series finale aired last night. I finally got to see it and for the most part, I'm pleased with the conclusion. There are those who hated the ending, and others who hated the show all together. But for me, I found LOST to be a refreshing alternative to the insufferable "reality" television shows that have been clogging up the airwaves for the past decade.
In my opinion, LOST was never about polar bears, Egyptian statues or smoke monsters. It was about the characters, their triumphs and pitfalls, their strengths and flaws and most importantly, their relationships with each other. I loved the crazy mythology of LOST, its geeky references, its bases in both science and faith. I'm glad all the questions haven't been answered. Although at times the ride was frustrating, it was an exhilarating ride.
I'll really miss that island...
...but I have my ticket, and I can go there whenever I want.

LOST weekend: Sunday

ABC's LOST will be showing its final episode tonight. I'm really going to miss this show. Over its six season run I have done many caricatures of the cast. Yesterday, I posted the first batch, today I'm showing the rest.Ben Linus.
Hugo "Hurley" Reyes
Daniel Faraday
Ben, Locke, Faraday and Miles

Sawyer, Kate and Jack

I'm working tonight, but the second I get home I'm going to watch the finale. Don't spoil the episode for me!

LOST weekend: Saturday.

On September 22, 2004 ABC aired the first episode of LOST. The theme of being stranded on a desert island has always interested me, so I was a fan from the start. Six seasons later, the show is coming to a close. Sunday night will be the final episode of LOST, and no matter how the show ends, the journey has been a long, strange wonderful trip.
I've done many caricatures of the cast of LOST over the years, so as a farewell to the show, I've decided to revisit them here, a kind of "greatest hits" if you will. The first is the cast of LOST about midway through the first season. I originally posted this group caricature on January 27th 2006.

I decided to draw each character individually, and composite them in layers. This way, I could combine them in any composition I wanted. Like this, for example:Here they are individually.
Boone, the first to go, and his sister Shannon.

Charlie.

Vincent, Michael and Waaaaaaaaaaaaaalt!

Sayid.
Sun and Jin.

John Locke.
Hurley.

Kate.

Sawyer.
Claire.

Jack.
Tomorrow I'll share some other LOST caricatures of done since this first batch. Stay tuned!

Congratulations Niko!

I'd like to congratulate my nephew Niko for graduating Army basic training. He's currently with the 193rd Brigade, 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment - Foxtrot Company in Fort Jackson SC.

Here's Niko with my brother-in-law Dino, my sister Donna and my niece and nephew Gabby and Garrett.

Star Wars In Concert

Yesterday, Alex and I took our geeky little selves to see Star Wars In Concert at the Amway Arena in Orlando. Thumbs up big Al!
Star Wars In Concert is a celebration of the music and mythology of the beloved six-episode saga. Not only does it boast an 80 member orchestra, a 60-voice chorus, a monstrous LED screen, laser effects and live narration by Star Wars C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels, it is also a traveling movie prop and costume exhibit. These next pics are some of that exhibit. Our host's other gig.

A couple of original Ewok costumes.

He's alive, and in perfect hibernation.
A couple of Jedi masters. I taught him everything he knows.

It's not a Star Wars celebration until Artoo shows up.

Tell the guy on the left to smile!

Alex narrowly escapes destruction on a Trade Federation Droid Cruiser.
We made our way to our seats, and the show started. No flash photography allowed, but I took the best pictures I could.
The chorus and orchestra were amazing. The sound was crystal-clear. Clips from the movies were interspersed with live shots of the orchestra.Lasers. It was like being at a Pink Floyd concert.

End of show. Standing ovation from the crowd. That's conductor Lucas Richman and host Anthony Daniels on the screen.
Ending the day with dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Faces of Jett

Jett just turned 10 weeks old. It's very difficult to get a "nice" picture of him, because he is so active and expressive. I end up taking a lot of pictures of him, the result being a vast range of Jett faces, some of which you see here.
